Brightly by Kaye Thornburgh—Cover Reveal!

Release Date: October 22, 2013
Series: Flicker #2
Publisher: Amazon Digital Services
Buy the Book: Amazon
Book Blurb: After escaping the faeries that held her prisoner in OtherworldLee Capren has made a new life for herself. When she’s not slinging spells with her monster-wrangling roommate, Filo, or honing her newfound magical abilities with her boyfriend, Nasser, she’s working in a shop that caters to Bridgestone City’s magical crowd. It’s not exactly a normal life… but it’s hers.

Everything changes when three strangers arrive with a desperate plea for help and a connection to Filo’s cruel former masters. Lee and her friends are soon swept up in the strangers’ quest to break a curse that plagues their island home.
Unraveling the secret of the curse will take them from an island where merfolk swim in the coves to a hidden city beneath the streets of Seattle and beyond. As the danger grows, relationships are tested, new ones are forged, and in the face of impossible choices, Lee learns the hardest lesson of all: Where there is love, there is also heartbreak.
With time running out and lives on the line, it becomes clear that failure could cost their lives—and success could cost them everything else.

As a child, I wanted to be an Egyptologist—but when my fear of ancient Egyptian curses got the better of me, I turned to storytelling instead. An unrepentant nerd, I still play an N64, and I could probably teach a whole class about Pokémon. I worry about the zombie apocalypse every day, I firmly believe that librarians are the noblest people in the world, and I consider Dr Pepper to be the elixir of life.

I'm currently a 20-year-old journalism major, author of the Amazon-bestseller Flicker and former Managing Editor of the North Idaho College Sentinel. I'm also a member of the Northwest Independent Writers Association and the editor of NIWA's 2013 speculative fiction anthology.

My Thoughts: This cover is very similar to the first but at the same time it's different. I really love that hair it gives it this sort of... magical feel and it's so flowing and bright and red and gorgeous.

Format: Kindle

Synopsis: With one look, I’m his . . .

With one touch, he’s mine . . .

With one kiss, it changes everything between us . . .

I’ve been famous since I can remember. Singing, acting, dancing—I’ve done it all. The tabloids cover my every move, but I don’t want that anymore. I want to be normal, whatever that is.

When I leave Hollywood for college in Vermont, I’m on my own for the first time in my life. This is my chance to figure out who I am and what I want in life.

But it’s a lot harder than I expected. I can’t escape my image. Classes are difficult, and I’m struggling. And then there’s Caleb Fox.

Sexy, intriguing Caleb Fox.

Caleb is the one man who doesn’t want to use me. He breaks down my walls. He challenges me. He wants me. And I just don’t know if I can give him the same—or if he’ll stick around when he finds out my shameful secret that the tabloids haven’t managed to uncover.

Dating him is risky enough, but loving him could break me.

My Review: I'm going to comment first on the cover. Because wow that cover is beautiful and deserves to be commented on. It's fabulous!! That's actually what first attracted me to this book. This book did not go the way I thought it would at all. I loved it. Hailey was a bit lost. In almost every aspect. She wasn't sure what she wanted to do with her life. But she wasn't exactly looking for Caleb. And boy Caleb she gets. Caleb is so hot and sweet and understanding it's heartwarming. And he's honest. Which is very important. I loved that from the beginning he was so intrigued by Hailey that he wouldn't take no for an answer. There at the end? Um.... that is a huge WTF. Well for me. I'm not going to spoil but Hailey has this big dark secret from her past. I never would have guessed that I promise you. Once the secret comes out and Caleb.... sigh. Yeah Caleb.

Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry

Release Date: July 1, 2012
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Series: Pushing the Limits #1
Characters: Echo Emerson, Noah Hutchins
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages: 416
Format: Hardcover
Source: Friend
Buy the Book: Amazon

Synopsis: No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with "freaky" scars on her arms. Even Echo can't remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal. But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo's world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible.

Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she'll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again.

My Review: This book was so frigging intense I cannot get over this omigosh I think I'll hyperventilate! *takes a deep breath* Okay. So. Echo. My God that poor chick and all her scars. This book was so dramatic! I literally spent the whole weekend cooped up reading this and then Dare You To and Katie couldn't have done a more fantastic job writing these two books. But right now let's focus on this one first. Echo has gone through some really bad shit and the worst part is she can't even remember exactly what happened. She's working on it but it's incredibly hard for her and no one wants to spill the beans. She meets Noah, HOT, bad-boy Noah, and she's attracted to him and she doesn't even know how to properly handle it. The book was so... real.  The way they kept getting closer to each other and I loved how they didn't just suddenly want each other and decided to be together. They worked up to it and talked before jumping into things. I liked how Noah was so understanding of her situation and how he wasn't afraid of accepting all her, scars and all. She was there for Noah as well. Even if Noah was hard-headed.
Anyway, I LOVED this book a whole lot. I started it on Friday and went to bed at 4:30am reading and I cried buckets and I just oh God my heart squeezed so bad. I sobbed so bad. Then I awoke at 9am to finish reading. And had breakfast then jumped head-first into book 2. So yes, if you have not read this book, this series you are missing out on some fantastic stories.

Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid

Release Date: March 13, 2013
Publisher: Caped Publishing
Series: Knitting in the City #1
Characters: Janie Morris, Quinn Sullivan
Age Group: Adult Romance
Pages: 402
Format: Kindle
Source: Bookstore
Buy the Book: Amazon

Synopsis: There are three things you need to know about Janie Morris: 1) She is incapable of engaging in a conversation without volunteering TMTI (Too Much Trivial Information), especially when she is unnerved, 2) No one unnerves her more than Quinn Sullivan, and 3) She doesn't know how to knit.

After losing her boyfriend, apartment, and job in the same day, Janie Morris can't help wondering what new torment fate has in store. To her utter mortification, Quinn Sullivan- aka Sir McHotpants- witnesses it all then keeps turning up like a pair of shoes you lust after but can't afford. The last thing she expects is for Quinn- the focus of her slightly, albeit harmless, stalkerish tendencies- to make her an offer she can't refuse.

My Review: I adored this book. I read it quite a while ago and I am still like awaiting the second one. I'll have to Google the series and author later. Anyway, Janie Morris is incredibly smart and knows a whole bunch of trivial facts, which I found incredibly cool. I wish I knew all that trivia! She sucks at human interaction though. Like she gets all nervous and stuff, especially around Quinn. Quinn is attracted to her and she does not know how to handle it or how to interact with him. She's afraid of screwing everything up and his thinking she's strange because of all the random facts constantly popping out of her mouth. I learned a lot of cool stuff in this book and I loved how Quinn, in his own way, was also really sucky at interaction. They helped each other get through the awkward stage of not knowing hot to proceed and I found that very endearing. Quinn is a total badass and Janie is swooning all over the place because of it and it was just so much fun!
