Clockwork Prince (Infernal Devices #2) by Cassandra Clare

Release Date: December 2011
Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry Books
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages: 498
Format: Hardcover
Shelfability: Bought
Source: Bookstore

Synopsis: In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa's powers for his own dark ends.
With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister's war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move and that one of their own has betrayed them.
Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, though her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will; the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?
As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.

Cassandra has created this amazing world that has captivated me so thoroughly I feel that I'll truly hurt once it is closed definitely. I have to be honest and say that when I read Clockwork Angel I was slightly disappointed and didn't love it as I would have liked. This one though, WOW. I can sincerely say that this book was a roller coaster of emotions for me and excitement was right at the top. I loved everything about this book and was sad when I reached it's end and didn't have Clockwork Princess to continue.
Tessa's relationship with Jem grew and, even though in the first book I had hated Will and wanted precisely that to happen, I repent wanting such a thing. Will was such an arrogant jerk that I cast him off but in this book he certainly one me over in a matter of a few pages. I love Jem, but I love Will and I'm starting to hate Tessa and I'm not even sure why since I can't blame her choices because Will treated her awfully.
In conclusion, this book rocked!

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Release Date: December 2011
Publisher: Entangled Publishing
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages: 266
Format: Paperback
Shelfability: Bought

Katy has just moved to some off the map town in West Virginia. Does it suck? Hell yeah. She things might start to look up when she meets her hot neighbor Daemon, but as soon as he opens his mouth everything goes down the drain. Daemon infuriates her no other being on this planet. And to make matters worse he's not even from this planet. Yep, that's right. He's a freaking Alien and now because of some mojo power thingy she's casting a light and has to stick to Daemon until it fades so he can protect her. Unless she kills him.

WOW. WOW. HOLY CHOCOLATE WAFFLES!!! I freaking loved this book! It's sexy, funny, and steamy. I loved Katy because she reminds me of me. A bit of a loner, happier with her books and laptop then with people. I could relate to her obsession with her blog which was hilarious because it's many things that I do as well. I liked that even though she's a bit shy she stands up for herself if the situation calls for it.
Daemon is all around infuriatingly sexy and irresistible even though he's a bit of a jackass, or maybe because he is, lol. I loved that he was protective of his sister and how he loved her so much. He's a bit grumpy but adorable {just don't tell him I used that word =)}. I'm usually not very big on aliens, but I can honestly say this story was fantastic and alluring.

Saving June by Hannah Harrington

Repease Date: May 2011
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages: 336
Format: Paperback
Shelfability: Aquire/Gift
Source: Bookstore
Buy the Book: Amazon

Harper Scott isn't sure how to deal with horrifying truth that her older sister, June, has committed suicide and left her alone. She's not even sure what to do or think and for some reason she's also a jumble of anger. When her divorced parents decide to split the ashes, she snatches the urn and takes of on a road trip to California with Laney, her best friend, and Jake, a guy who insisted on accompanying them even though she has no idea what his connection to June even was. Will this trip bring her the understanding she needs?
Saving June is stunning. A wonderful and touching debut. I loved it because not only was it packed with drama it made you think about that things that maybe you would never normally think about. Like belief. I'm not an overly religious person. In fact, I know it sounds awful and completely atheist but church is pretty darn boring. I try to pay attention whenever I attend but I glaze over and then I feel guilty. Because I feel like it's totally disrespectful. So I hate going because I'd rather not go then go and be desperate to leave. I try not to think too much about faith God and faith and anything... divine. Because if you look at it from a logical point of view, it simply doesn't make sense and you question your faith. There was somewhere where they mention how some people need to believe in something so they don't feel alone. And that's pretty much me. Not as much as Harper's Aunt, though.
Harper honestly pissed me of a little because, I know she was hurting, losing a sister must be awful, but I felt as though she was... cold. I admired that she was strong, don't get me wrong, but I thought she simply rejected any forms of comfort and walled herself up. And for some strange reason that I yet have to fully comprehend, I loved that about her.
Jake Tolan. Okay so this guy is like the last level of Nirvana. I just loved him. Sometimes I feel like I have weakness for guys, period. But I so don't. There are many guys I don't like, so whatever. Anyway, he's really someone who I think I'd appreciate. Besides the fact that he's honest and can be a total dick when he wants to be (which I know doesn't constitute a good and attractive trait but it's totally sexy and fun), he's passionate about music. I'm a person who loves music and without it I feel like an eery silence surrounds me and I hate it. I'm always listening to music. No matter where you see me you can expect that I'll have my earbuds jammed in my ears. Even when I'm reading. And writing. Especially writing. And seeing how much he enjoys that classic rock and knowing how many people know that it was an amazing time for music and I can't help but want someone like him. To teach me about music. I love that he was filled with so much passion about something.
I always end up blabbering in my reviews so I'm totally going to stop now. The book is amazing and definitely very worth the read. Terrific.

Bonus: Check out Jake's "Saving June" playlist here.

My favorite quotes:
“Nolite te bastardes carborundorum”

-----------------------------------------------------

“It's the best kind of devastating there is. He took his pain and he turned it into something beautiful. Into something that people connect to. And that's what good music does. It speaks to you. It changes you. What I'm trying to say is, it's just nice, I guess, knowing that someone else can put into words what I feel. That there are people who have been through things worse than I have, and they came out on the other side okay. Not only that, but they have made some kind of twisted, effed up sense of the completely senseless. They made it mean something. These songs tell me I'm not alone. If you look at it that way, music...music can see you through anything.”

----------------------------------------------------------------
I knock again, more persistently. Footsteps pad toward the door, a lock turns and the door opens to reveal Jake. He’s bleary-eyed, shirtless and holding an open jar of peanut butter, a spoon stuck in his mouth. Somehow, he still makes it look attractive. He blinks a few times and pulls out the spoon with a loud popping noise.

Okay, maybe not so attractive.

“That’s disgusting,” I say.

“Nice to see you, too,” he says through a mouthful of peanut butter.

Rae of Hope by W.J May

Release Date: September 2011
Publisher: Mitchell-Morris Publishing, Inc.
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages: 239
Format: Kindle
Shelfability: Aquire
Source: Author
Buy the Book: Amazon

Synopsis:
Fifteen-year-old Rae Kerrigan never questioned her family’s history. That is until she accepted a scholarship to Guilder Boarding School in England. Guilder is an exclusive, gifted school. Rae has no idea what she is getting herself into or that her family’s past is going to come back and taunt her.
She learns she is part of an unparalleled group of individuals who become inked with a unique tattoo (tatu) on their sixteenth birthday. The tatu enables them to have supernatural powers particular to the shape of their ink-art. Both of her parents were inked, though Rae never knew, as they passed away when she was young. Learning about her family's past, her evil father and sacrificial mother, Rae needs to decide if there is a ray of hope in her own life.

May's debut author is definitely an interesting work. Reminded me of Hex Hall, yet it had a different feeling and twist at the same time.
I didn't feel I could connect with Rae much as a character, probably because I felt that she ranged personalities constantly. And I say that in a good way because she surprised me and did things and made choices that I never thought she'd make, which I loved because I love it when a character stays fresh yet is her/himself. Sometimes it's not the authors fault. You simply don't connect with everyone you meet and to me it's the same with characters.
I loved the whole tatĂș and thought it was very creative and fun. Especially Rae's tatĂș and what it brought because it was super awesome but I'm not giving that away. Sorry.
I also like Devon very much because he's sweet and nice. He helped Rae understand better the world she's suddenly being plunged into. Rae's uncle was to definitely displease me for, well pretty much everything.
This story will entertain you and suck you in. A worthwhile debut.

The Vincent Boys by Abbi Glines

Release Date: October 2011
Publisher: Abbi Glines
Age Group: Mature Teens
Pages: 174
Format: Kindle
Shelfability: Bought
Source: Bookstore
Buy the Book: Amazon

Synopsis:  Being the good girl isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Ashton Gray has grown weary of playing the part to please her parents, and to be worthy of the town’s prince charming, Sawyer Vincent. Maybe That’s why she’s found herself spending time with Sawyer’s cousin, Beau, while he’s away for the summer camping with his family. Beau is nothing like her perfect boyfriend. He’s the sexiest guy she’s ever seen, dangerous in ways she’s only day dreamed about, and the one guy she should stay away from.
Beau never envied Sawyer his loving parents, his big nice home, or his position as quarterback. He loves him like a brother. Which is why he's tried everything in his power to keep his distance from Sawyer’s girlfriend. Even if he has loved her since the age of five, Ashton is Sawyer’s girl, so therefore she’s off limits. But when Sawyer leaves for the summer, Ashton, the one girl Beau would move Heaven and Earth for, decides she wants to get into trouble. Stabbing the one person who’s always accepted him and stood by him in the back, is the cost of finally holding Ashton Gray in his arms. Is she worth losing his cousin over?.... Hell Yeah.

The Vincent Boys. Beau. Sigh. To get this off my chest before I explode I'll say: I LOVED IT!
To be honest, I didn't expect to love it as much. This was the first time I'd read something by Abbi and though when I'd read the synopsis I'd marked it as to read, I wasn't very enthusiastic about it. I guess you could say I had low expectations. Once I bought it for my Kindle and started reading I couldn't stop. And even after I'd reached the last page I wanted to read more Beau.
I'm a sucker for romance and people falling in love, finding their soul-mates, love of your life and all that jazz. However, I'm not a big enthusiast on the whole cheating thing. In my opinion, it's always best to be forward from the start. I guess that sometimes there are certain circumstances that perhaps delay you but I dont believe they stop you.
Beau had an instant like for me. I guess I'm just naturally attracted to broken souls and bad boys or something, but even when he was an asshole to Ash I liked him.
I think that I find a certain beauty in a guy who, even though had a rough upbringing and lacked love, can be good at heart. That even if they try to keep appearances, they're caring even if they refuse to acknowledge it's existence because they don't believe it's there. That makes my heart melt even more; for them to be blind of their own goodness.
Anyway! I was pissed at first because really, Ash had the choice and chance to confront Sawyer. It really angered me that she lacked the courage to fight for the person she truly loved. Though I can certainly understand where she tries to be perfect. How she wants to be perfect and worthy of Sawyer. We all seek acceptance and sometimes even sacrifice what truly pleases us to please the world.
As for Beau, like I said, he'd won me from the beginning, but I truly loved him much more after seeing how he treated Ash. I also liked that we got a glimpse at his real emotions because Abbi let us see it. Many times a characters intentions and feelings are misinterpreted because we see them however the main character performed them. That's what I love about books that alternate POV's between the characters. We see the truth.
And... I feel like I'm already giving too much away, so I'll stop now.
I absolutely loved it and the year has barely started but I'm already saving this in my 2012 favorites pile :)

It's a Brand New Year!

Hey guys! Happy New Year's!

Lately I've been AWOL but the holidays have been crazy and i haven't been able to really log on! Like, no where. You may see me give a quick tweet but that's it. I can't promise right now to go come back for real for at least another week. You see, the holidays are pretty much over, I know. Thing is, I live in Puerto Rico and we celebrate the Three Wise Men Day as well on January 6, so our partying isn't quite over yet. I will try to post a review or two during the next few days, but they won't be too frequent, probably, since it's hard for me during these days.
My classes start once again on the thirteenth (last semester of High School, you bet I'm excited!), so I should be able to get back on track afterwards. I'm a messy blogger, which isn't a good thing, so in December i decided to start organizing myself. It didn't work out too well, but I won't give up. I just need a little bit of time to adjust.

Every New Year people make a list with resolutins, but I've never made one before. this year I decided this year to make one of my own.

2012 RESOLUTIONS

1. Finish writing my book. I'm almost done and I'm very excited!
2. Find a publisher. Second step towards becoming a writer!
3. Graduate from HS with a 3.5 average. So far I've kept it up. hopefully it won't go down this semester.
4. Learn to play the guitar. It's something I've always wanted to do. I have a guitar gathering dust in my closet, so it's time to take it out and strum a tune!
5. Get my driver's licensce. I have my permit and it's been six months. I can finally get it, since September actually, so I think it's about time.
6. Get my first job. My parents think I should just concentrate on school, but I'd really like to have a part time. It's not that they don't provide for me, but I'd like to feel a bit more independant.
7. Be a better blogger. Blog more often and stick to a schedule. Try to do more discussions and such.
8. Reach 150 blog followers! Hopefully if I am a better blogger I may reach that goal.
9. Read 25 Dystopian novels. I love Dystopians but for some reason I never read enough.

That's my list and I'll hopefully be able to strike them all off on December 31, 2012. :)

Make sure to leave them in the comments section! :)
