It's Disney, Kids!

What's up guys? I hope you're all super amazing. Anyway, so this update is to tell you guys that tomorrow morning–yes! tomorrow morning–I will be leaving for DISNEY WORLD!

Yes, Disney! Where the magic and fun never ends!

(Or so I've been told because, well, I've never been.)

Since it's my first time I am super excited to be going and I can't wait to get there! I am going to get on so many rides it's going to be insane!

On to other stuff, I got my Lola and the Boy next Door copy in the mail on the 26! Sadly, it's still in the post office, sobbing for me to go pick it up, because I haven't been able to. Tomorrow before leaving for the airport I'll stop and pick it up. Which means I'll be reading it on the plane; which equals: BEST PLANE RIDE EVAH! I can hardly wait for the sun to rise tomorrow! :)

FOR INNOCENTS ONLY...

I attended THE BOYFRIEND SCHOOL

and married A REGULAR GUY

who was JUST MY TYPE,

THE SECOND COMING OF STEVE JOBS.

We bought a home on GOOD HOPE ROAD,

where I taught myself the JOY OF COOKING

and HOW TO MAKE AN AMERICAN QUILT.

It was ALMOST PARADISE.

It was A FALSE SENSE OF WELL BEING.

One Saturday, OUT OF THE BLUE,

I received a call from THE OTHER WIFE,

who said HE WAS HER MAN.

Apparently I couldn't see THE FOREST FOR THE TREES.

That night I stood under the MILK GLASS MOON

and prayed to OUR LADY OF THE LOST AND FOUND.

Is it not a sin to LIE DOWN IN DARKNESS?

He was DEAD ON SUNDAY,

ROADKILL,

may he REST IN PIECES.

Now he is STEPPIN' ON A RAINBOW,

and I am locked up for ALL MY LIFE

following one of THE GREAT TEXAS MURDER TRIALS.

I NEED ALL THE FRIENDS I CAN GET.

In the outskirts of Chicago, at Fairfield High School, you are either a south sider or a north sider. And they don't really get along.

Alejandro Fuentes is a Mexicano gang member from the south, while Brittany Ellis is head cheerleader and, obviously, from the north. When these two opposites are partnered for Chemistry class the last thing they expect is to fall in love. But the ride is a bumpy one.

Alex is struggling to keep his family safe from the Latino Blood and trying to stay alive in the process. Meanwhile, Brittany's world is falling apart and her Little Miss Perfect image is starting to crack and show its ugly insides.

I'm going to start by saying that this book was better than I expected it to be. I really liked the plot and characters. When I read the synopsis for this book I was afraid that it was going to be too stereotyped and even though, in a way it sort of is, Elkeles made it work in a way that appeals to the reader. Personally, I found the Spanglish in the book a wee bit annoying. Let me explain. For example, Alex would be narrating and he would say something like: "Catch ya' later, mamcita." But it was tolerable. The thing I love about Alex is that he's a guy you don't want to mess with but if you peel away all those rough layers that he sports, he's a good guy without really letting go of his bad boy attitude or snarky personality. Their relationship is definitely an explosive combination but they are trying to make it work. Brittany's character was not my favorite. While I did admire her courage and could, partly, understand the pressure she was under and the need to keep up an image, I hated that she wanted to keep up appearances about her relationship with Alex. I didn't like how she didn't stand up for what they had and was a coward in that aspect.

All in all, the story was very good. It made me laugh and get angry and nervous and sad. I can guarantee you won't regret reading it!

Doing The Happy Dance

I am dying here!!! SO SUPER EXCITED GUYS! The other night I pretty much begged my dad to let me order a book. He said yes! And last night I pre-ordered LOLA AND THE BOY NEXT DOOR! I'm hopping up and down! It ships tomorrow so it should arrive on--at the latest--this coming Friday the 23. I also coaxed him into letting me order a second one, since we were ordering anyway. I ordered Hooked by Catherine Greenman, which I have just been dying to read since I read the excerpt on Amazon. !
